JAMES DAILEY, 85, CALLED BY DEATH

PIONEER OF COLO NEIGHBORHOOD PASSED AWAY AT HOME OF SISTER.

James Daily, 85, for over a half a century a resident of Story county, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ellen Fitzgerald, on Ninth street, Wednesday evening after an illness that had extended over a period of about two years, of complications incident to old age and a general breaking down, ending in an attack of pneumonia.

The funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's church, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, after which the body will be laid to rest in St. Patrick's cemetery by the side of his wife who died about a year ago.

Mr. Daily was a native of Irelan where he was born about 85 years ago. It was in 1874 that he came to Story county and located on a farm in the neighborhood of Colo.

Mr. Daily was married to Miss Julia Sullivan of Belvidere, Minn., on November 10, 1885*, the marriage being solemnized at St. Mary's church in Colo by Father Murphey, then pastor of St. Patrick's and St. Mary's parishes.

He and his good wife continued to make their home upon the farm until about two years ago when they moved into Colo, where they had their home until the death of Mrs. Daily.

Following their moving into Colo and the general breakdown of the health of the old people, the sister, Mrs. Fitzgerald and her husband went over and looked after them until the death of the wife, shortly after which they returned to their home in this city and Mr. Daily came over with them, that he might be with the sister who had so well administered to his care.

The deceased was one of a family of nine children and his death leaves Mrs. Fitzgerald of this city and the sole survivor of the family. There are, however, a number of nieces and cousins left and several of them will be here at the funeral services Saturday morning.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The marriage record of James Daly and Julia Sullivan states they were married 5 November 1886 in Colo, Story County, Iowa.
