DEATHS

Jennie B. Hix

Jennie B. Hix, daughter of S.B. and Annetta Stevens was born on a farm near Collins, Iowa on February 14, 1891. On September 4th, 1912 she was united in marriage to Seymour Robert Hix and of this union were born four children -- Dale of Santa Rosa, California; Mrs. Joy Fitzgerald of Collins, Iowa; Albert DeLos who preceded her in death in 1962 and Annetta Elaine who died in infancy. They made their home in Zearing and operated a general mercantile store and were also associate with State Savings Bank.

In 1929 the family moved to LeMars, Iowa where Mr. Hix was comptroller of Westmar College and Mrs. Hix was manager of the college book store. Their home became a second home for many of the college students. With the encouragement and often financial assistance given these young people by Mr. and Mrs. Hix several of the student were able to complete their education.

In 1948 they retired, moving first to Zearing to care for Mr. Hix's mother, and later to their farm near Fernald, Iowa. On January 11th, 1957 Mr. Hix died, and Jennie remained on the home place until her health did not permit active management of the farm. The last three years she had made her home south of Collins with her devoted companion, Berniece Wambold.

Mrs. Hix died August 27th, 1974 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa after a brief illness. She is survived by her son Dale and daughter Joy.
