ANOTHER WAR VETERAN IS DEAD

JOHN A. FRY OF IOWA CENTER HAS ANSWERED "TAPS." FUNERAL WEDNESDAY

John A. Fry [should be John E. Fry], 83, Civil War veteran and a resident of Story county since 1853, died at his home in Iowa Center Sunday afternoon at 2:30, by Rev. C. E. Lookingbill, after which interment will be by the side of his wife who passed away January 6, 1918. Nine of the twelve children survive parents.

John Alexander Fry [should be John Elias Fry] was born at Putnam [County], Indiana, September 3, 1842. He was about 4 years of age when the family moved from the Hoosier state to Iowa, locating first in Jasper county, where they lived seven years and then moved over into Story county, near Iowa Center, where their family was raised and where the parents died.

John was married and had his home in or near Iowa Center during the balance of his days. He served during the Civil war, received an honorable discharge and had long been identified with the Grand Army Post at Maxwell.

He leaves as his surviving children Mrs. Dave Brown of Iowa Center, Johnnie Fry of Carroll, Jesse Fry of Iowa Center, Warren Fry of Maxwell, Mrs. Charles Alderman of Ames, Mrs. Roy Lynton [should be Linton] of Lebanon, Ind., George Fry of Boone and Ethel Smith of Omaha, James of Collins and Gail of Iowa Center. Two children, Charles and an infant babe are dead.

Besides these he leaves his sisters, Mrs. A. E. Lough of this city and Mrs. Susie Cowlin of Ardmore, Ill., brothers George Fry of Nevada and James Fry of Van Wert, and a half sister, Mrs. Robert Wantz of Clemons. Another half sister, Mrs. George Taylor died in this city a few years ago.
