Colo, May 27--The funeral services for the late Michael J. Hopkins who died at his home here Monday afternoon, were held from St. Mary's church this morning at 10 o'clock, after which the boy was laid to rest in St. James cemetery. The death of Mr. Hopkins, coming as it did after a rather brief from troubles and complications following an attack of the flu, was a blow to the community.

Mr. Hopkins was a member of one of the pioneer families of the county having lived in the Colo neighborhood for over three score years. He leaves besides his wife, one son, Roger Hopkins of Colo, two brothers, John Hopkins of Nevada and James Hopkins of Colo besides other relatives and a wide circle of friends.

Mr. Hopkins was a native of the county, being born over in Palestine township, May 1, 1855. When still very young he moved to this neighborhood. All of his life had been spent in Story county and nearly sixty years of it in and near this place. It was in 1891 that he was married to Miss Ella Hopkins [should be Miss Ella McCoy] and she with the son survives him.
