PASSING OF O. W. OLSON

McCallsburg Man Died at Advanced Age of 78

Special to the Journal.
McCallsburg, Jan. 5.--O. W. Olson, well known retired farmer who died at his home in this city December 28, 1924, at the advanced age of 78 years, 6 months and 16 days, was a native of Aske, Moster, Olne, Norway, where he was born June 12, 1846.

Mr. Olson was married June 9, 1868 to Metta Anderson. To this union were born eight children. In 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Olson and six children came to America, locating near Seneca, La Salle county, Illinois, and ina 1893 they moved to Story county, Ia., locating on a farm southwest of McCallsburg, where they lived until 1903 when they retired from the farm and moved to McCallsburg where he lived until death called him.

Mr. Olson was preceeded in death by his wife, who passed away Jan. 9, 1922, an three children who died in Norway. Left to mourn his death are five children, 19 grand children and three great grand children, all of whom are living in and near McCallsburg. The children are Andrew, O. V. , J. M., Mrs. Fred Jorstad and Marie at home, who tenderly cared for both mother and father as long as they lived. Mr. Olson's health has been failing the past two years. Three weeks ago he suffered a paralytic stroke from which with other complications he gradually failed, passing away Sunday noon.

He never complained, but was cheerful to the last. He said, "May the Lord do with me as he pleases. He has won friends. We are here in this vale of sorrow and strife--shall we give up and loose."

Mr. Olson was a faithful member and worker in the Lutheran church of this place, from which church the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon Rev. T. H. Benson officiating.

Mrs. Clyde Baumgardner and Ruth Benson sang a duet.

Messrs. Pete Egenes, Arthur Lura, Mrs. Baumgardner and Ruth Benson sang as a quartette and Mrs. O. E. Ritland sang a solo in the Norwegian language.

The flowers were many and beautiful.

Mr. Olson was laid to rest in the Warren township cemetery by the side of his wife to await the call on that great day when Jesus comes in the Glory of the Father to render onto each according to his deeds.

The family are extended the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
