Martha Elizabeth Guy was born in Indiana on the 26th of January 1855, and departed this life on the morning of January 3, 1925, having nearly attained the age of 70 years. With her parents, Ebinezer and Mary Guy, she came to the state of Iowa in the year of her birth and since that time has resided save for a brief period of time continuously in Story county. On February 4, 1873, she was united in marriage to Calvin R. Evans. To this union ten children were born, four of whom have preceded the mother. The six children who remain are Madison Evans, of Pine Bluffs, Ark.; William Evans of Marengo; Chas. Evans of Hill City, S. D.; Ray and Harry Evans of Collins and Mrs. Addie Harsh of Des Moines. Early in life she associated herself with the Wesleyan Methodist church and after remaining for many years with that group she came to the Methodist church in Collins in 1918, enriching it through the deep fruitage of her sacrificial life. Funeral services were held at the Collins Methodist church at two o'clock, Monday, January 5, 1925, conducted by the pastor Rev. Dittmer. Interment was made in the Collins Evergreen cemetery.
