Thos. J. Albaugh Former Nevada Man Is Dead
Tom Albaugh, 80, long time resident of Nevada and prominent in local Odd Fellow circles, died Saturday afternoon at Woodward, from a strangulated hernia, from which he had been a sufferer for some time. Mr. Albaugh had been an invalid for several years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Duckworth Funeral home at Ames, with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge, after which the body will be taken to Marion where it will be laid to rest at Shiloh cemetery by the side of his wife who has been dead for many years.
Thomas J. Albaugh, of Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry, was born July 21, 1857 on a farm near Marion, Iowa, one of the children of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Albaugh, who came to Iowa in an early day and located their farm there in 1846, purchasing their land from the government.
He is the last of ten children who grew to maturity. Of the five daughters of which Mrs. J. C. Burkhart, mother of Mrs. Queen Banks, Nevada, was one, all lived well over the four score mark. Mrs. Burkhart who passed away at her home in Nevada, was 88 at the time of her death.
A brother of the deceased, the late Frank Albaugh, who also died in Nevada, had reached the age of 67 years at the time of his death, he being the youngest of the five sons.
Mr. Albaugh came to Zearing about 30 years ago and spent a time with his sister Mrs. Burkhart, after which he moved to Nevada, where he made his home for over 25 years.
Of later years he had made his home with his only son Carl Albaugh of Ames, until three years ago when his health made it advisable to take him to the state hospital at Woodward for care and treatment.
Mr. Albaugh had been a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge for over fifty years and was also a long time member of Nevada Encampment of Central Iowa lodge No. 104, Nevada.
His membership had been with the Church of Christ for many years.
He was a carpenter by trade and during his more active life was always busy and industriously engaged at his trade. He is survived by his only son Carl Albaugh and a grandson Harold Albaugh of Ames, besides numerous nieces and nephews.
