Hanson Funeral Services Held Friday
Special to the Journal.
Collins, Aug. 14--Funeral services for the late George E. Hanson, 74, of northeast Jasper county who died suddenly while at work at his farm near Ira, Wednesday morning, Aug. 11, were held a Ashton chapel near his home Friday afternoon, Aug. 13 at 3:00 o'clock, with the Rev. Simmons, a former pastor of the Mingo Methodist church in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Simmons, wife of the pastor in charge and Eldon Geisler with Mrs. Carrie Hayes of Mingo as accompanist.The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, a mute testimony of the love and esteem in which the decease was held by all who knew him. They were arranged and cared for by Mrs. J. H. Boyd, Mrs. Ralph Maxwell and Mrs. Clarence Morrison.
Interment was in Ashton cemetery which is near the home where Mr. Hanson was born and where he spent his entire life. The pallbearers, nephews of the deceased were Amos Hanson, Jr., Lester Hanson, Charles Hanson, Lloyd, Ray and Hugh Parker, Denver Byal and Gale Rippey. The following is a brief life history of the deceased.
George E. Hanson, second son of Hans and Mary Ashton Hanson, was born on a farm in Clearcreek tonwship, Jasper county, Jan. 11, 1863. He grew to manhood on this farm and later became the owner, improving it until it was one of the finest homes in that part of the county. He was married on April 11, 1894 to Miss Edna Rippey of Jasper county. To this union six children were born. A daughter Lois died in childhood and a son Harold a World War veteran died in 1924. The surviving children are Mrs. Grace Kimberley of near Collins, Lars, Hollis and James Hanson who live at home. Besides his wife and four children he leaves three grandchildren, Hansel Hanson and Jean and George Kimberley, also two brothers S. S. Hanson of Nevada, Amos Hanson of Collins and a sister Mrs. Hulda Fawcett of Nevada as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
As a boy Mr. Hanson became interested in agriculture and took an especial interest in livestock becoming one of the largest land owners and feeders in northeast Jasper county. He also became interest in banking and at the time of his death was president of the Mingo bank and a director and past president of the Exchange bank at Collins. He was also interested in the Farmers Telephone company at Mingo.
Mr. Hanson was widely known for his industry and business ability and material success had crowned his efforts. He will be greatly missed by his family neighbors and business associates for he was at all times a congenial, broadminded, unassuming gentleman whom it was a pleasure to know.
