Funeral Services for Late Humes Cummings

Colo, Sept. 16--Funeral services were held for Humes Cummings at the Colo Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Steffenson, local pastor in charge. The pall bearers were H. E. Ransom, Alva Gearhart, Chas. Reed, Ade White, F. C. Perry and Mr. Hubbard. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. S. D. Rinehart and Mrs. Alva Gearhart.Music was furnished by a male quartette composed of J. D. Lounsberry, Kenneth Hakes, Chas. Lehman and C. B. Wilson, with Mrs. Steffenson at the piano. Mrs. Lambert Niell and Mrs. Glen Brockway also sang a duet.
Humes Cummings, son of Thomas H. and Ann Cummings, was born in Post Matilda, Union county, Penn., and passed away April 10, 1937, in Des Moines, Ia., at the age of 78 years, 17 days.
At the age of nine years he came to Colo with his mother and brother, Lloyd Cummings, where he had since made his home with the exception of the last ten years, which he has spent in Des Moines. His father passed away in Pennsylvania while Humes was a very small boy. After coming to Colo he taught school and later entered into the mercantile business in Colo with the late J. W. Ambrose and a few years later became owner of the business, which he managed for a good many years until retiring in 1900.
He was united in marriage to Emma Golden of Nevada in 1893 and to this union one son was born. Mrs. Cummings passed away in 1910 and he was again married in 1914 to Mrs. Etta Dunning of Ames, who passed away five years later.
He was a faithful member of of the Colo Methodist church for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, J. W. Gilger, one brother Lloyd Cummings, one half-brother, Grant Gilger. He is survived by one son Golden H. of Chicago, two nieces Mrs. Ella Brouhard of Zearing, Mrs. Zella Ozmun of Independence, five nephews Harry Cummings of Brookings, S. D., Grant Cumming and Ronald Cumming of Chicago and Thomas and Lloyd Cummings of Colo.
