Rites Held For Charles Wittick
CAMBRIDGE--Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John F. Rex, at the Methodist church in Cambridge on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Charles Wittick. Interment was made in Peoria cemetery south of Maxwell.
Three songs were sung "Safe In the Arms of Jesus," "Rock of Ages" and "Savior Pilot Me" by a quartet consisting of Earl Gardner, Mrs. Roy Gill, Mrs. Guy De Hoet and Kermit Griffith.
Casket bearers were Walter J. and Clark Wittick, Jay Alder, Otto and Henry Holzapel and Vern Gigl.
Obituary
Charles Herman Wittick was born July 31, 1881 in Wurtenburg, Germany. He came to America at the age of 15 and lived in New York City three years. With his three brothers he then came west and settled in Waterloo, Iowa where they operated meat markets until 1904. At that time Mr. Wittick came to Cambridge, Iowa and started a business of his own.
On Nov. 13, 1905 he was united in marriage to Elois Alder of Maxwell, Iowa. To this union were born four children, Paul, Clark and Walter J. of Cambridge and Frieda Irene who is Mrs. Glenn Potter of Los Angeles, Calif.
Mr. Wittick operate his Cambridge market for 23 years when he retired on his farm 1 mile south of Cambridge where he lived until his death.
His wife Ada preceded him in death Feb. 28, 1937 and his son, Paul, on Dec. 2, 1938.
March 14, 1942 he was married to Beatrice Skola of Slater and to this union was born one daughter, Joan Marie.
As a child he was baptized and confirmed in the German Lutheran faith.
He leaves besides his children, one brother Gus, of Marshalltown, and six grandchildren also nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
