Funeral Services for Mrs. F. J. Tett
Special to the Journal:
McCallsburg, March 5--The funeral of Mrs. F. J. Tett was held Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church preceded by a short prayer service at the home with Rev. C. B. Driver of Churdan her former pastor, officiating assisted by Rev. H. N. Bakke, pastor of the Bethany Lutheran church of McCallsburg.The pall bearers were F. D. Schauper of Ames, N. H. Nelson, A. N. Rasmussen, John Schauper, B. J. Ritland and W. H. Reid. The many floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Gertie Larson and Mrs. A. G. Graves.
The music was furnished by Mrs. F. E. Nail and Mrs. W. H. Reid who sang "It is Well" and "Some Day We'll Understand" and joined by Mrs. G. W. Mills sang "Now the Day is Over," Miss Catherine Craig serving as pianist. Burial was made in the Warren township cemetery.
Emma Bauser was born in England in 1858 and came to the United States with her parents in 1860 and lived the greater part of the time at Joliet, Ill. Mrs. Tett was the eighth in a family of 12 children.
She was united in marriage to F. J. Tett on Oct. 27, 1878 and the same year came to Iowa and located on a farm near McCallsburg where they lived until 1915 when they retired from farming and came to McCallsburg where they have since resided.
Mr. and Mrs. Tett had four children, one daughter Miss Cleo and home, three sons Charles and Frank M. of Zearing and Wm. T. of McCallsburg who with the husband and three grandsons and four sisters, are left to mourn her departure. Two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Tett celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in October 1928 and that summer took a delightful trip to England, the land of their birth, where they had a wonderful time with relatives and friends.
A short time before their marriage they became members of the First Baptist church of Joliet, Ill., and in April 1919 united with the Presbyterian church of McCallsburg where Mrs. Tett has been very active, having attended the evening service on Sunday evening Dec. 13, when she became ill after returning home. Her illness which was not considered serious at first, developed into a serious condition when all that loving hands could do for her was done and passed away Monday forenoon, March 1, 1937. Mrs. Tett was very active in the Dorcas society having been a member a good many years also of Pilgrim Sunday school class and has served for quite a number of years as home department superintendent of the Presbyterian Sunday school. She will be greatly missed by these groups as well as in the home and community and her family who are extended the sympathy of their many friends in the community.
Among the relatives in attendance at the funeral were, her sister Mrs. Isabell Martin of Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Henry Tabert, Mrs. Charley Bowdron and sons Kenneth and Jimmie of Ironton, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Carver and daughter Illo of Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Carver of Grundy Center, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Carver, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Carver, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Carver, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Bowen Platt of Zearing, MR. and Mrs. F. H. Menzel, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stevenson, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Milford township. Among other in attendance were, Mr. an Mrs. Lester Garber and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Singer of Graettinger, Rev. and Mrs. C. B. Driver of Churdan, F. D. Schauper and Miss Bertha Schultz of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Bowen Platt and Mrs. John Campbell of Zearing, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Gunder and Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Nelson of Colo and Mrs. Libbie Snyder.
