Funeral Held for Alfred Ryerson

Special to the Journal:
Huxley, Feb. 27--Funeral services for Alfred L. Ryerson were held Tuesday afternoon with a short service at the home at 1:30 and at 2:30 p. m. from the Bethany Lutheran church in Kelley. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. E. R. Rorem of Slater.

At the home Rev. Rorem gave a short talk and Mrs. Roy Elliott and Miss Irene Berhow sang two duets "Tired" and "Going Down the Valley." At the church the pastor spoke from John 5:1-14. The Bethany church choir rendered two numbers, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Heaven is My Home." Miss Mae Ford of Kelley sang a solo "Goodnight Here, Goodmorning up There." The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Mrs. Rinert Holland of Kelley had charge of the flowers. The pall bearers were Leslie, Lawrence and Obert Ryerson of Cambridge, Kenneth Heggen of Ames, Elmer Ryerson of Eagle Grove and R. B. Helland. Burial was made in the Bethany cemetery.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the services were Mr. and Mrs. John Larson of Elmore, Minn., Mrs. Helen Ryerson, Thompson, Miss Lizzie and Elmer Ryerson of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Andrew Erickson and Mrs. Orrin Tysdell of Newell, S. D., Paul Peterson of Belle Fourche, S. D., Mrs. Chas. Peterson and Gerry of Cordell, Okla., Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Jacobson and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Ryan of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vespestad and Dale of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Bolten, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Cruell, Miss Minnie Anderson and Mrs. Arthur La Blanc and Bobby all of Des Moines, Clyde Roe of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Gunner Sorhus of Bondurant, Mrs. Rasmus Sandvik and son of Hayward, Minn., and Walter Johnson of Le Roy, Minn., and a large number of relatives and friends from Huxley and the neighboring towns.

Alfred L. Ryerson was born in Union township, Story county on July 15, 1872 and passed away at his home in Huxley on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 6:00 p.m. He was the son of Elizabeth and Lewis Ryerson, and grew to manhood on the Ryerson homestead northeast of Huxley. He was united in marriage to Minnie Lackous on March 13, 1895. To this union one child Edgar Lewis Ryerson, was born. His son preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie Ryerson, one granddaughter, Mrs. Donald Birkestrand, two brothers, Oscar and Rinert Ryerson of Cambridge and two sisters Mrs. Lewis Roe of Kelley and Mrs. John Larson of Elmore, Minn.
