THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Monday, August 1, 2005.

Dorothy Ellen Overgaard (Warren), 82, a long-time resident of Ames, died at her home on Friday, July 29, of acute myelogenous leukemia. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Dorothy Ellen Overgaard was born June 18, 1923, to Arthur and Wave Warren on a farm in Nevada. She graduated from Ames High School in 1941. She married Ferrel Carr in June 1941 and had four children; Nancy, Robert, Larry and Patsy. Ferrel died in 1956 and she married George Overgaard in 1961. She attended the First Evangelical Free Church.

Dorothy will always be remembered for the years of dedication as the lady with a cheery smile and a warm hello as she sold tickets and treats at Carr Pool. She loved to bring joy to others by sharing her handmade crafts, each of which demonstrated her love of giving. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by one brother, Fred Harrison of Newton; her three children, Robert (Sue) Carr of Valley View, Texas, Larry (Jane) Carr of River Falls, Wis., and Patsy Heady of Portland, Ore.; step-son, Gary (Karen) Carr of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren, Terri (Todd) Hayes, Traci Lawrence, Kim Lawrence, Justin (Rebecca) Carr, Kristin (Linc) Stockton, Michelle Schmidt, Kristie (Mike) Faust and two step-grandchildren, Chad Carr and Stacey (Dave) Sick; nine great-grandchildren, Kameron, Jordyn, Kaitlyn, Cadence, Ryan, Alec, Patrick, Abigail and Emilie.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Nancy Lawrence; grandson, Jeff Heady and five brothers.

A visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.
