Fred Borchert Buried at Zearing; Native of Germany

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Evangelical church for Frederick Borchert with Rev. R. E. Kerney officiating. Clyde Upchurch, Mrs. Verda Fisher and Mrs. H. H Martin and Glen McBride, as a quartett, sang and were accompanied at the piano by Miss Ada Young. Mrs. August Cerka and Mrs. R. E. Kerney cared for the flowers. The pallbearers were Fay Ballinger, Ray McBride, August Cerka, Walter Gull, Will Rahfeldt, Chas. Fink. Burial was in Zearing cemetery.

Frederick Borchert, son of John H. and Ernestina Borchert, was born near Berlin, Germany, on Sept. 9, 1871 and died Dec. 31, 1936 at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 21 days.

He was the youngest of a family of 9 brothers and sisters. In 1880 the parents with the children Tillie and Frederick came to America, and located in Story county near Zearing. Herman, the only other member of the family to come to America, followed a couple of years later.

The Borchert family lived in Story county for 3 years and then moved to Iola, Kans., where the next seven years were spent. They returned to Iowa, locating in Sac county.

On Jan. 18, 1895 Mr. Borchert was married to Miss Lena Ott, and they established their home on a farm 5 miles northeast of Carroll. Later they moved to a farm near Galesburg, Kans. When the children came to the Zearing community Mr. and Mrs. Borchert came also, to be near them.

Before ill health came, Mr. Borchert was at all times ready and willing to help his neighbors and friends in time of need. His foremost thought were to help others. In his family life he was kind and patient husband, and a loving husband. He was reared an Evangelical Lutheran, and adhered to that faith to his death.

Mr. Borchert is survived by a son, Adolph, a daughter, Etta, the wife of Ed Rahfeldt, his three grandchildren, David Borchert, Shirley Borchert and Dale Rahfeldt. His brother Herman, Carroll and sister Tillie, now Mrs. Frank Cerka, also remain.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral services were Herman Borchert and daughter Marie, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schrick and son all of Carroll, Fred Ott, wife and daughter, Lake City; Mrs. John Ott and daughter from Lehigh, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Balt of Linden.
