Obituary of Mr. John McQuillen.

John McQuillin was born in Ohio August 5, 1849. He came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander McQuillin to Story county, Iowa in 1867. April 17, 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Brouhard. Two children were born to them Oscar and Stella. The son passed from life when quite young. The daughter grew to womanhood and was married and she passed away leaving a little daughter. Mr. McQuillin was bereft of his wife Feb 23, 1890. On June 21, 1894 he was married to Miss Louise Lax. One child Lois Fay was born to them. Mr. McQuillin had been a member of the United Evangelical church at Colo for more than a score of years. He had been failing in health for a long time but was confined to his bed less than a week. He bore his suffering patiently and all that loving hearts and willing hands could perform was done for his relief. About two o'clock Thursday morning Aug. 12, 1915, he passed away so quietly and quickly that those who were watching scarcely realized a change until he was gone. Members of his family who were with him during his last hours were: his wife and daughter Lois and granddaughter Lorena Adams and two brothers Frank and Bruce McQuillen. Mr. McQuillen was of a quiet, retiring nature. He was a carpenter by trade and had worked in and around Colo for many years, performing his work faithfully and well. He was a kind husband, and indulgent father, a good neighbor and friend. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, one daughter, one granddaughter, three sisters, three brothers and his aged father in law Mr. Lax, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the U. E. church Saturday at 10 A. M. conducted by his pastor Rev. W. C. McKinley assisted by Rev. J. M. Bamford and Rev. G. H. Johnson. Interment was made in the Colo Cemetery. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Bruce McQuillen of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McQuillen and son Clifford of Boone, Mrs. D. A. Allard of Bridgewater, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. James Wingfield of Ogden, Miss Lorena Adams, L. A. Adams, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Adams and daughter Cathrine of Cedar Rapids.
