OBITUARY

Jonathan Hall Baker, born August 22, 1826 in New York state. When a young man he moved to the state of Illinois and in the years 1852 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Umbarger. To this union were born four children, three daughters and one son. One daughter Mrs. Ellen Griffin with whom he was making his home in Nevada, Mrs. Bianna Bumb who died in 1896; and Mrs. Jennie Wagner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The one son, George A. Baker who resides in Battle Creek, Michigan. All of the living children were at the bedside of the father during his last hours. His wife died in 1892 but he was again married in 1897 to Mrs. Alida [Wier] Duncan of Harrisburg, Penn., at which place she died in July 1912. He enlisted in company H of the 12th Illinois Infantry at the breaking out of the Civil War in 1861. At the expiration of the three months service, for which time he enlisted, he reenlisted for three years in Company E, 93rd Illinois, and was honorably discharged for disability. He was a member of the local G. A. R. of the Jason Ferguson Post. In early youth he united with the Baptist church and about thirty-seven years ago identified himself with the Seventh-day Adventists of which denomination he was a faithful member until his decease which occurred at Nevada, Iowa, January 24, 1915, at 7:00 p. m., being 88 years, 5 months and 2 days of age. He was of a family of ten children--two brothers still living, one [Theron Baker] at St. Charles, Illinois who was 97 years of age last November and the other residing at Tiskilwa, Illinois. His father [George Baker] at the time of his death was 93 years of age. He has nine grand children, three great grand children and one great great grandchild. The funeral services will be conducted from the home of G. B. Wilson, Corner of Oak and 5th Ave. S., Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p. m. The local G. A. R. members are especially invited.
