THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, July 28, 2005.

Dr. Robert E. Andrews Jr., 53, of Ames, died Tuesday, July 26, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames of complications of a long-term illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames, with the Rev. Lynn Elrod officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery in Huxley. A luncheon for family and friends will be served at the church at noon prior to the service.

Dr. Robert E. Andrews Jr. was born to Robert E. Andrews Sr. and Inace Andrews on Jan. 19, 1952, in Wenatchee, Wash. He graduated high school from Entiat, Wash., in 1970. He completed his doctorate at Washington State University in Pullman in 1980 and his post-doctoral work at Kansas State in 1981. He was currently an associate professor in the Department of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology at Iowa State University.

He married Debra Maland on April 3, 1993, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Robert enjoyed woodworking, camping, gardening and golfing. He especially loved to play with his dog, Annie.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Andrews of Ames; sons, Robert E. (Emily) Andrews III of La Crosse, Wis., and Senior Airman David N. (Kristyn) Andrews of Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.; parents, Robert E. and Inace Andrews Sr. of Wenatchee, Wash.; brothers, Randall (Linda) Andrews and Ronald (Sandee) Andrews, all of Washington state; sister, Martitia (Michael) Anthis of Omaha, Neb; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvary United Methodist Church.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting Robert's family with arrangements.
