Catherine Johnston was born in Liverpool, Eng., December 17, 1858 and departed this life at the Sanitarium in Nevada, Wednesday March 15, 1916 being at the time of her death 58 years, 2 months and 28 days. At the age of 9 years she with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnston and several children came to this country and settled on a farm south of Ames where she lived until her marriage to Jason L. Billings, November 7, 1882. To this union were born six children three boys and three daughters, two Jessie I. and Guy E. preceded her to the other land those left behind to mourn her loss are beside the husband Howard O., Harry E., Mary E. and Anna J. Mrs. Billings was one of family of 10 children eight of whom still survive her they being Sarah Howard, of Liverpool, Eng., Ellen Nervitt, Hartsell, Col., Elizabeth McLain, Reno, Nev., Mary Switzer, Shipley, Iowa, Hugh and Andrew Johnston, Spearfish, South Dakota, Thomas Johnston, Appelton, Wis., John Johnston, Alaska. None were able to be present at the funeral except Mary Switzer. There are also five grandchildren Floyd, Pauline and Harry Billings, Ramah and Dorothy Nokes. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Saturday morning Rev. E. G. Beyers speaking works of comfort to the bereaved relatives and friends from Ecclesiastes 12-13 "by request" this chapter being one of Mrs. Billings favorite chapters. The deceased was a kind loving wife and mother and a friend to all. She will be greatly missed in home and outside of her home. The family have the sympathy of the entire community.
