Jacob W. M'Cord Dies at Collins on Wed
Collins--Jacob W. McCord, 79 long-time resident of Story county died at his home here about 10:45 Thursday morning of asthma of the heart.
Jacob McCord was born in Des Moines county October 25, 1951. He was the oldest child of Commodore P.W. McCord and Sarah E. Smith. In 1852 the family moved to Story county, settling first on a farm three miles east of Collins. Later they moved to the Dalton neighborhood, where they resided until after the Civil war, when they moved to Nevada where P. W. McCord had been elected the first auditor of Story county. Jacob frew to manhood on the McCord homestead two miles northwest of Collins, which is now occuplied by a nephew Ralph D. McCord.
On February 4 1879 he was married to Martha Donahue. They lived all their married life on what is now the Clyde McCord farm two and ohe-half miles northwest of here. Six children were born to this union. Mrs. McCord died in 1916 and in 1919 Mr. McCord was married to Miss Mary Dolph. After his second marriage the couple came to Collins, where they have since resided.
Besides his wife he is survived by four children, Mrs. Dollie Brouhard of New Harford, Leo McCord of Gurnee, Ill., Mrs. Olive Shickell of near Nevada and Clyde McCord of near Collins. A brother Sherm, of Lawton,Okla, a sister, Mrs. Edith Shenkle of near Collins and six grandchildren, also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the United Brethren church here in charge of the Rev. Z. Hoffman, and burial will be in the Iowa Center cemetery.
