Former Zearing Resident Died at Marshalltown

Zearing, April 14--W. H. Howard, whose home was at 12 1/2 East State St., Marshalltown, and who owned Howard's Lunch, passed away at his home at 6 p. m. on Thursday. He became ill on Wednesday morning; his health had not been good for the past four years.

Mr. Howard was born June 6, 1884, near Downing, Mo., a son of John and Fannie Howard. He was married to Pearl Yantis, Dec. 12, 1906, at Kirksville, Mo. After their marriage they continued to live in Missouri until 1912 when they moved to Quincy, Illinois. In 1918 they came to Iowa and farmed near New Providence, Gifford and Zearing. Later he operated a restaurant at Clemons. In 1935 the family moved to Ferguson, Ia., where Mr. Howard operated a general store for eight years, then moved to Marshalltown Sept. 1, 1943.

Surviving are Mrs. Howard, three sons and one in the army air corp in the Philippines and Mrs. Vernon Wolford of Zearing; one brother and two sisters, J. M. Howard of Middletown, Mo., Mrs. George Paxson of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Mrs. Rosa Diehl of St. Louis, Mo., and eight grandchildren. His parents and one son preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Estel funeral home in charge of Rev. B. O. Duncan and Rev. F. M. Baughman. Pallbearers were Walter Phillip; Harlan Thompson; Walter Johnson, Harold Green, Lyle Cross and Wilbur Eley. Burial was in the Zearing cemetery.

T. Yantis of Conrad; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Yantis of Laurel; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bacon of Liberty; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Wolford and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wolford, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Eley, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Norton, all of Zearing; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Cross and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson of New Providence, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Teig of Roland;

Mr. and Mrs. John Beeman of Nevada, besides relatives and friends from Ferguson, Laurel, Gifford, Eldora, Clemons, Gilman, Zearing, Dillon, Liscomb, Green Mountain, Haverhill, St. Anthony, Dunbar, Legrand and Cambridge.
