OBITUARY

DAVID B. FRY

David B. Fry of Zearing died at his home last Friday after a lingering illness of several years of cancer of the stomach.

Mr. Fry was a son of Mr. and Mrs. David Fry* and was born in White Side county, Illinois. About thirty-two years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Lovie Berket*. They have been residents of Story county twenty seven years. Two years they lived in Marshalltown.

To this union were born nine children, three boys and six girls. They are Orville, Everett, Howard, Gertrude, Ethel, Ione, Mildred, Fannie, Zelma who with the mother mourn the loss of a loving and kind husband and good father. He also leaves two brothers G. M. Fry and John Fry of Fernald and two sisters Mrs. J. L. Pool of Swea City and Mrs. Letta Riby*, of Fowler, Cal., and one grand child. All were present at the funeral but the sister who lives in the far west.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon by Rev. Wheeler of the Dunkard church at Marshalltown and the Odd Fellows held services at the grave. Interment was made in the Zearing cemetery. The family receive heartfelt sympathy in their sad hour from a wide circle of friends.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: David Berry Fry was the son of Cornelius Fry and Fanny/Fannie Bear/Bare, not David Fry as stated. David Fry married Lovia/Lovie May Burkett, not Berket as stated.

The sister of David Fry is referred to as Letta Riby. This is Arletta "Letta" Fry who married Clyde Augusta Rigby on 28 February 1895. On her marriage record as well as her children's marriage records, her maiden name is listed as Arletta Frye McMurray. Born in October 1871, she is listed in the Perry Township, Jackson County, Iowa 1880 census as the 8 year old "adopted daughter" of David McMurry and Rachel Catherine (Cook) McMurray. Her biological father, Cornelius Fry, remarried in 1874 and this submitter suspects her mother died in or shortly after childbirth and Arletta was given to the McMurrays to raise.
