William Starr, Former Nevada Resident, Is Dead

W. P. Starr, 73, one of the earlier day contractors and builders in Nevada, died at Seattle, Washington, Saturday, according to word received by his brother, George Starr of Kelley.

While Mr. Starr had been an invalid for the past three years his passing was unexpected.

Mr. Starr and family were long time residents of Nevada and he was well known by older residents. He was a law student with one of the leading lawyers in Nevada for two or three years and studied at Drake university before coming to Nevada.

He was an architect and builder and built a number of homes in Nevada. He went from here to Kelley in 1901 an owned and operated a private bank for two years, also building several houses and a large corner brick building. At the time of his death he owned and operated a wholesale and retail lumber yard in Seattle and a yard at Coulee Dam which was destroyed by fire in 1938.

He is survived by his wife*, one son, William, a professor of law at the Hartford, Conn., university; a daughter Evangeline, a practicing attorney in Seattle and prosecuting attorney for the state of Washington; one grandson Bill; a brother, George Starr of Kelley, three sisters Mrs. Lilie McNair of Chariton, Mrs. Mary Fantz and Mrs. Minnie Daugherty of Lacona, Ia. Burial was in Seattle.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: William Preston Starr, son of Willian Starr and Evaline Nunnally, married Carrie Belle Thompson, daughter of Richard Robert Thompson and Mary Glass, on 31 December 1891 in Story County, Iowa.
