Mrs. A. J. Wright Dies Early Today at Home of Son

Mrs. A. J. Wright, 84, for many years a resident of in or near Nevada, die at the home of her son Ross Wright, in Ames at 5:40 a.m. today, from infirmities due to her advanced years.

Funeral rites will be on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Adams Funeral home in Ames. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of her husband who died a number of years ago.

She had been in failing health for over a year and her rapid decline came after a severe setback on Thanksgiving day.

Mrs. Wright was born Virginia Alice Orvings [should be Owings], Sept. 1, 1855, in Carroll county, Illinois. She came to Iowa at the age of 14 years with her parents and settled in Marshall county. The old home is still occupied by a sister, Mrs. Verna Appel. Mrs. Wright was a charter member of the Congregational church of Van Cleve.

She was married to Alonzo J. Wright, Nov. 11, 1872, in Marshall county. Eight children were born to this union, one dying in infancy. Those living are Charles of Nevada, Ross of Ames, Robert of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Cora Sherk of Nevada, Mrs. Minnie Eaton of Ames, Mrs. Mabel Hart of Des Moines and Mrs. Lenore Terrill of Boone. Also there is one brother R. E. Orvings [should be Owings] of Tenant and sisters Mrs. Amanda McKeighan of Tenant, Mrs. Clara Miller of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Florence Banford of Chicago, Mrs. Olive Lane of Grand Junction and Mrs. Verna Appel of Van Cleve.
