Funeral Services At Bethlehem Church Mrs. Sarah Torgerson

Slater, Dec. 21--Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Torgerson were held Monday afternoon, 1:30 o'clock in the home of her daughter Mrs. Sanford Helland, south of Huxley; and two o'clock at the Bethlehem church in Slater. The services were in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem.

Mrs. Will Cassell and Mrs. John Herman had charge of the large and very beautiful floral offering. A large number of gift of money were given in her memory to the missions.

The Riix quartette sang "The Old Rugged Cross," Mrs. M. S. Heggen sang "Den Store Hvide Flok" and Mesdames M. S. Heggen and A. L. Peterson sang a duet, "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The pallbearers were: Lloyd Lane of Maxwell, Jim McConky and Abe Torgerson of Des Moines, Clark and Seerley Helland of near Huxley and Alvy Torgerson of Slater. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Sarah Roe was born in Skoneik, Norway, Sept. 11, 1858 and died Dec. 15, 1939 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 4 days. Her parents were Kathryn and Olai Roe. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway, where she was also married to Abraham Torgerson May 3, 1882. They later settled in Cambridge and later moved to a farm north of Slater where they made their home. Her husband died in 1908. Mrs. Torgerson moved into Slater in September 1916 and lived here until in March 1939, when her health began to fail an she gave up her home and lived with her daughter, Mrs. Helland, where she was tenderly cared for until her death. She was a devoted mother and a kind friend. She is survived by nine children--Carl, Elmer and Arthur Torgerson of Slater, Ben of San Diego, Calif., Tillett of Glanada, Ore., Mrs. Milo Johnson of San Diego, Calif., Sherman of Peoria, Ill., Martin of Des Moines, and Mrs. Sanford Helland of near Huxley.

Twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren, two brother, Axel Roe of LeRoy, Minn., and Louis Roe of Kelley, and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Tesdahl of Gary, Inc., and Miss Anna Roe of Skonevik, Norway, also survive.
