Services Conducted For Rex Tomlinson

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock in the Tomlinson home in Cambridge for Rex Tomlinson. Services were conducted by Rev. John F. Rex, pastor of the Methodist church with burial in the Cambridge cemetery.

A mixed quartet consisting of Earl Gardner, Mrs. Leland Gardner, Mrs. Earl McHone and Kermit Griffith sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me" accompanied by Mrs. John F. Rex at the piano.

Casket bearers were Thomas Weatherman, Harold Banks, Bill Longnecker, Hamilton Kahler, Robert Nerness and Harlan Nerness.

Obituary

Rex Evan Tomlinson, fifth son of Meda and Charles Tomlinson, was born December 13, 1926 in Cambridge, Iowa. His entire childhood was spent in this community. He was baptized at the time of his confession of his love for faith in Christ Jesus and became a member of the Cambridge Methodist church, in June 1938. He received his education in both the grades and high school in Cambridge.

Rex joined the United States Army on the 28th day of March, 1945. He finished his training here in the United States and was sent overseas in the Asiatic Theater of War. While there his time of service expired and he re-enlisted and was granted a furlough home. He then was transferred to the Panama Canal Zone where he served as a bandsman until his discharge on the 12th day of May, 1947. He returned to his home in Cambridge and obtained employment at Solar Aircraft plant in Des Moines. Recently he accepted a position with Armstrong Furnace company in Des Moines and was living with his mother at home. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard, also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose at Iowa Falls, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Tomlinson on December 15, 1939. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Meda Tomlinson, his elder brothers== Charles Edward of Sioux City, Leslie Earl and Melvin Eugene of Cambridge, Paul English of Mason, Georgia, and his sister, Ruth Elaine, wife of Richard Boyd, of Cambridge and many friends and relatives.
