Funeral Service for Ellsworth Maland
Huxley, Sept. 27--Funeral services for Ellsworth Maland, who died Thursday evening as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Palestine church, following a brief prayer service at the home. The church was filled to its utmost capacity when relatives and friends assembled to show their love an sympathy to the family of the one who was called away in his early manhood.
The many floral offerings were beautiful and there was a large number of gifts to the missions given in his memory by the family, other relatives and friends, an the Palestine Luther league.
The Riis quartette sang two selections "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer." Walter Christopher sang a solo "Does Jesus Care?"
Rev. Jacobson who was in charge of the services based his text on John 3:16 where he found words of comfort to the bereaved and brought forth God's wonderful love also in the hour of trial.
Pall bearers were Stanley Maland, Palmer Severeid, Loren Johnson, Eldon Bauge, Silas Tweedt and Paul Maland. Interment in the Palestine cemetery.
Ellsworth Ole Maland, youngest son of Ole and Inger Maland, was born near Huxley, Dec. 2, 1917. He passed away at the Boone county hospital, Sept. 21 years, 9 months and 19 days. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Buland in the Palestine church. He lived in this community all his life and attended the public schools in Huxley. He has been engaged in farming at home, with his brothers. His father passed away July 14, 1937, and an infant brother also precede him in death. He is survived by his mother Mrs. Inger Maland, three brothers, Jeffrey and Omar at home, Johnnie of Stanhope, four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Gumtha [should be Guntau] of Ogden, Mrs. Welline Klongland [should be Willene Klonglan] of Nevada, Mrs. Viola Petrson of Cambridge and Elnora at home, also five nephews and two nieces.
Among those from a distance who were here for the funeral were Obert Maland of Minneapolis, Dr. Paul Maland of Charles City; Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Tesdall from Minnesota; Mrs. Lesa Heggen, Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Heggen, Mrs. Andy Strand and daughter Joan, of Renwick; Omar Maland of Clarion, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Maland and Lismore of Kanawha; Mrs. Truman Nelson and Carrol of Story City; Mr. Joe Maland and Doris, Mrs. Hopkins, Alice Maland, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maland and family of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Silas Tweedt and Mr. and Mrs. Kirkendall of Ames.
