Relatives Called By Death Donald Maxwell, Formerly of Story City
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Maxwell of Maxwell and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Maxwell of Hubbard were called to Kansas City by the death of Donald J. Maxwell, 37 years old, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 24 at the Veterans hospital at Excelsior Spring, Mo.
Mr. Maxwell was born in Ames in 1902, the son of Richard and Mina Kurtz Maxwell and received his schooling at Iowa Center and Waterloo. He enlisted at the age of 16 and served with the U. S. in the World war as a member of the Rainbow division and after this service he enlisted in the U. S. Air corps.
He was unite in marriage on August 11, 1923, to Ethel Wilson of Kansas City and to them were born three sons. While he was physically able Mr. Maxwell was employed by the Kansas City Light & Power Co., but was forced to discontinue active labor when his health failed him. He then proceeded to take up aviation, a lifetime interest. Because of previous flying experience he built a number of planes for influential air-minded Kansas Citians. He used his mechanical ability to the end of his life as a means of diversion from his suffering.
He was held in reverence by a mass of acquaintances and business associates because of his exceptional abilities and endurance in spite of his weakened state of health. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Those surviving are his wife and sons Billy Don, 13; Bobby, 9; and John, 5; his brothers, Paul of Chicago; Vern of Hubbard; Martin of Maxwell and Roscoe of Albert Lea, Minn.
Funeral services were held in Grayson, Mo., and interment was made at Nashua, Mo.
