Former Story County Man Dies In Missouri

Maxwell, Sept. 25--The body of J. W. Elliott, 85, earlier day Story county resident, was brought back from his home at Cassville, Mo., where he passed away earlier in the week. There were funeral services held at the home of his daughter Mrs. J. R. Hoffman Saturday afternoon at 1:30, followed by burial in Evergreen cemetery at Collins. The services were in charge of Rev. Judson T. Perkins of the Methodist church of Maxwell.

James William Elliott, eldest son of Zachariah and Elizabeth Elliott, was born in Greenfield, Ind., on April 1, 1854 and departed this life at his home in Cassville, Mo., on Sept. 19, 1939, aged 85 years, 5 months and 19 days.

His early life was spent in Story county, Iowa. As a young man he united with the United Brethren church and remained a faithful follower of God his entire life.

On October 18, 1874 he was united in marriage to Martha Parker. To this union nine children were born. The children have preceded him in death. The wife and mother died in 1914. On October 10, 1923 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mae Edens of Cassville, Mo.

There remains to mourn his departure, his wife and seven children: Harley Elliott, Cambridge, Iowa; Mrs. J. R. Hoffman, Maxwell, Iowa; Jesse W. Elliott, Salem, Oregon; Daniel W. Elliott, Augusta, Kansas; Mrs. A. C. Harrah, Hampton, Iowa; Mrs. Ed Talley, Independence, Kansas; and Mrs. L. E. Gilbert, Joplin, Missouri; one brother, Frank Elliott, Collins, Iowa, 29 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren. A host of other relatives and friends also mourn his death.
