Slater Farmer Hanged Himself Early Today

Special to the Journal:
Slater, Sept. 22--Milford Brown, 47, farmer of near here suicided by hanging himself in a shed on the farm a mile east of of Slater this morning about 7 o'clock.

Despondency over the condition of his health is thought to have cause him to commit the rash act.

Brown had been severely injured when kicked by a horse several months ago and had since been able to cripple around on crutches. He had been despondent over his inability to look after his work and the slowness of his recovery.

It was thought by the family that he had gone to the well to pump water for the stock but when he failed to return search revealed his lifeless body hanging by a rope from a rafter in the shed.

The coroner was called and after viewing the body decided that the man had died from strangulation with suicidal intent and no inquest was deemed necessary.

Brown was married and the father of six children.
