Funeral Services for Roy M. Davis

Special to the Journal.
Zearing, Sept. 7--Funeral services for Roy M. Davis of Zearing were largely attended at the Brouhard funeral home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. George W. Manning officiated an Mrs. Jerry Hankins and Mrs. Harry Martin sang three selections accompanied at the piano by Miss Maxine Ricketts. The many beautiful flowers were in charge of Mrs. Will Gardiner and Mrs. Lyle Bailey. The pall bearers were Messrs. Wm. Gardiner, Omar Dool, W. C. Young, Fred Thornton, George Hansen and M. E. Dakins.

Burial was in the Zearing cemetery.

Roy Milford Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Davis was born at Clinton, Ia., June 4, 1874 and passed from this life on August 28, 1939.

As a boy, Mr. Davis came to Story county with his parents, who settled here in 1881. He lived in and near Zearing the remainder of his life. For many years Mr. Davis was engaged in business at Zearing. During the later days of his life, failing health prevented him from entering into any social of public functions.

October 5, 1899, he was united in marriage with Miss Eva Gertrude Golly. To this union one son, Floyd, was born.

Since 1909, Mr. Davis was a member of the Eagles lodge at Marshalltown.

Roy Davis was one of generous spirit; patient loss and pain. Many times he helped his fellowmen and no one in need ever was turned from his door, empty. In his last suffering he was patient and uncomplaining. He was preceded in death by his parents, also three brothers, Everett, Courtney and Claude Wilbur, and one sister Ethel Ann. He is survived by his wife who has ministered to him in his illness and his only son Floyd of Moorland, Ia. Four sisters and three brothers also survive. They are Albert of Marshalltown, Rose Barnhill of Rockwell, Edith Moon of Lake Crystal, Minn., Teig Davis of Mason City, Art Davis, Gary Owen, Montana; Maud Schaack of Sacramento, Calif., and Grace Nielsen of Clinton, Ia.

Relatives and friends from a distance in attendance at the funeral services were: Fred Golly, Mrs. Charles Buffington, Fred and Henry Helvig of Marietta, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moon, Audrey and Faye, Mr. Lute Moon of Lake Crystal, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Guy Davis, Mrs. Ivan Davis, Frank Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Ethn Johnson of Mason City.

Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Barnhill, Mr. and Mrs. Verle Barnhill, Fern Pholey, Mr. and Mrs. White of Rockwell; Albert Davis, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown and Iona Brown, Mrs. Joe Clemons and son, Miss Phaye Golly of Marshalltown; Will Robinson and Bert Mitchell of Albion; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Abbas and son Ray of Conrad.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown of Whitten, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stogds and daughter of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Nielson of Clinton, Mrs. Jane Rosenborough and Maxine of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Davis of Moorland,; Miss Jennie Price, Marshalltown.
