Funeral Services for Miss Josie Olson

Slater, Aug. 17--Funeral services for Miss Josie Olson were held Tuesday afternoon. A brief service was held at the Riis Funeral home at 1:30 o'clock and at two o'clock services were held at the Bethlehem church. The services were in charge of Rev. Peter Buland of the Sunset Home at Story City. He was assisted by Rev. E. R. Rorem. Many beautiful floral offerings surrounded the casket. The pall bearers were Earl Rayness of Ames, John Thorson of Cambridge, Joseph Olson of near Kelley, Randall Thompson and Serene Johnson of near Huxley and Mart Thompson of Slater. Miss Margaret Fritz sang the solo "I'm a Pilgrim," and Mrs. A. L. Peterson sang, "Go Understands." Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Miss Stena Josephine Olson was born near Cambridge, February 27, 1882, and died at the county home near Nevada, August 12, 1939, at the age of 57 years, 5 months and 16 days. Her parents, brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She made her home while in Slater with her widowed mother, Anna Barbara Olson and sister Jane Eleflot. After the death of her mother, and sister, she was cared for at the county home. She is survive by one nephew Shirley Gard of Ames and a number of cousins and other relatives.

Mrs. Earl McCord and Mrs. Ilo Beech of the Story county home, attended the services.

Among the relatives from out of town who were present were: Mrs. Ole Ness and Lizzie Oakland of New Sharon, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Knudson and daughter Martha of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Tollef Vogen, Sam Knudson and Mary Knudson of Le Grand, Earl Rayness, Mrs. Andy Anderson and daughter Neomi of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Serene Johnson, Elmer Johnson, Mrs. A. B. Lande of near Huxley, Julia Gord of Des Moines, Mrs. L. M. Wagley and daughter Mrs. Aldrich of Huxley.
