Funeral Services Held Tuesday for Chas. E. Hix

Funeral services for Chas. E. Hix, 74, who died at his home at 1220 Fourth street Saturday morning, where held at the Bishop Funeral home Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge. There were two song by Charles Handsaker, with Mrs. Hathaway at the organ. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. Hix was a son of one of the oldest of the pioneer families of Sherman township and had lived in Story county all of his life, after coming here as a boy of 8 years.

Chas. E. Hix, son of the late Seymour and Louise Hix, was born at Sycamore, Illinois, November 17, 1864. Mr. Hix passed away Saturday morning August 19, 1939 at 1 a.m. at his home in Nevada, Iowa, at the age of 74 years, ten months and two days.

In the year of 1872 when a boy of 8 years of age with his parents came to Iowa and settled in Story county where he grew to manhood.

In the year of 1885 he was unit in marriage to Mary Buffington. To this union were born three children, two sons and one daughter. The daughter died in infancy.

Mr. Hix lived on a farm west of Zearing, Iowa, until about 25 years ago. When he retired from farm life he came to Nevada and purchased a home and lived here until death. Three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hix celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and two sons Lester Hix of Long Beach, California, and Cecil Hix of Whittier, California. He also leaves two brothers Bert Hix of Zearing and Walter D. Hix of Santa Monica, California, Mrs. Susie Eddy of Aredale, and Mrs. Sadie Saunders of Redfield Depot, Maine, five grandchildren and one great grandchild, other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Hix united in the year of 1905 with the Christian church of Zearing, and left his membership there until death.
