Mrs. Sorensen Died Suddenly Last Evening
The people of Nevada were shocked Wednesday evening by the announcement of the very sudden death at 6:30 of Mrs. Rasmus Sorensen, 73, who passed away from a heart attack at her home 235 Lincoln avenue.
Mrs. Sorensen had been in her usual health during the day, had looked after her work about the home, visited with her neighbors and the members of her family and had spent some time in the garden.
Lying down for a brief rest, after a visit with her son Herman, she was on the couch when the daughter Mary arrived home. The latter noticed her mother was not well and immediately called a physician, but she passed peacefully away about 6:30.
Mrs. Sorensen, who had lived in Nevada wince she and her husband retired from the farm many years ago, was well and most favorably known in the city.
Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church while a child in her native Denmark, she had always been a devoted member of that church, taking an active part in the missionary society an other activities of the church.
Bodil Anderson was born at Fyn, Denmark, March 12, 1866, and died at her home in Nevada June 28, 1939, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 16 days.
A daughter of Chris and Anne Anderson, she came to United States first in 1886, locating west of Williams, in Hamilton county.
After spending a year here she went back to Denmark and upon her return to America she was accompanied by her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Frederickson*, her own father having passed away in Denmark.
The Fredericksons located at Clutier, in Tama county, and that was their home until their deaths*.
As a young woman Mrs. Sorensen has worked at Webster City and Ames, coming to Nevada when she was married to Rasmus Sorensen March 22, 1894. they were married by Dr. A. B. Shrader, then pastor of Memorial Lutheran church, now retired and living at Kansas City.
The family home was on a farm just northwest of Nevada, where they lived until they retired and established their home at 235 Lincoln avenue, Nevada.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sorensen, one of whom died in infancy. The others are Harry Sorensen, farmer of near Nevada; Minnie, now Mrs. Oscar Strine of Anamosa; Clifford of Nevada, and Mary and Herman at home.
She is also survived by four stepchildren. They are Sophia, now Mrs. Mont Hansen of northwest of Nevada; Stena, now Mrs. Herman Gunder of Flushing, Long Island, N. Y.; and Peter and Frederick, farmers of near Nevada. The latter was a babe when Mrs. Sorensen entered the home and to these stepchildren she gave the same tender care as she did her own children, and this affection was shared alike by all.
She also leaves 23 grandchildren and one great grandchild; the latter being little Billy Hansen of Nevada. The only other relatives are a nephew, Chris Anderson of Albert Lea, Minn., and a cousin Mrs. Carl Peterson at Chocolate Bayou, Texas, at whose home she, with her daughter Miss Mary Sorensen, visited a year ago.
Funeral services will be held at Memorial Lutheran church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with her pastor Dr. J. O. Simon in charge. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of her husband who died November 30, 1926.
Mrs. Sorensen was a woman of the very finest characteristics and a splendid personality and her sudden passing will be deeply mourned by member of her family and a wide circle of friends. She had devoted her long life to her family, her home and her church. She was a lover of flowers and the other attractions of nature and spent much time during her later years in her garden enjoying sharing the fruits of her labors with others. She enjoyed travel and for several years her daughter Mary planned her summer vacations that her mother might accompany her.
Many friends will extend sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
