Funeral Rites Held Here Friday for Daniel W. Putman [sic]

Funeral services for D. W. Putnam, 86, who died at the home of his son, L. W. Putnam of Nevada of Nevada Wednesday morning, were held Friday afternoon at the Morfoot Funeral home, with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge.

There were two songs by Charles Handsaker at the piano. Members of Central Iowa Lodge No. 104 I.O.O.F., attended the service in a body.

The rooms of the funeral home were well filled with relatives and friends gathered for the last rites of the deceased.

The following brief sketch of his life was read by the minister during the service:

"Daniel Webster Putnam was born in Centerville, Crawford county, Pennsylvania, May 18, 1853. He grew to manhood there and was married to Miss Mathilda Andrews of Centerville, Pennsylvania, on February 26, 1871. They made their home in Pennsylvania until about twenty years ago when they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

"To this union were born four children, three daughters and one son; Lillie Bee Bower of Plattsville, Colorado; Josephine Watson of Olean, New York; Etta Buxton of Oakland, California; and Lavern W. Putnam of Nevada.

"His wife preceded him in death October 9, 1926. After her death he retired from active business life and in the year of 1930 he came to Iowa with his son Lavern and wife and made his home with them south of Nevada and where he passed away Wednesday morning about 10:30 a.m. June 29, 1939 at the age of eighty-six years, one month and 11 days.

"He leaves to mourn his passing his four children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

"When yet a young man he gave his life to Christ and united with the Methodist Church and lived faithful until death.

"Daniel Putnam spent most of his life in the number and oil business. He joined Grand Valley I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 10-72 in the year 1895.

"He was a kind and loving father and a good provider, always interested in the welfare of his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who learned to know him."

His body will be taken to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to be laid to rest beside his wife in the Bartlesville mausoleum.
