Mass at St. Patrick's Tuesday Morning for Late John Roney

Funeral services for the late John Roney, 83, who passed away early Sunday morning at this home on Third street, as the result of a fractured hip suffered in a fall at his home last June, were held from St. Patrick's Catholic church, Tuesday morning at 9:30 with his pastor, the Rev. James D. Mahoney officiating.

The requiem music was sung by Raymond O'Donnell and Helen Plavitts with Freda Rocci-Ries at the organ.

The casket bearers were Lou Borgen, Chas. Breen, Tom Foley, Cesare Stefani, Will Noring and H. L. Eveland, the latter of Ames.

Committal was in the family lot in the Ames Catholic cemetery.

John Roney was the second eldest son in a family of twelve children, born to John and Catherine Roney near Mankato, Illinois in 1859.

While still a small boy the family moved to a farm near Boone, Ia., and later to farm near Kelley in which vicinity he lived until 1930 when with his wife and family he moved to Nevada.

He was united in marriage in 1895 to Helen Wilson and to this union eight children were born, seven of whom, with the wife and mother, survive him. One daughter, Charlotte passed away at home, Mrs. Rease Wax of Nevada and Mrs. Leonard Johnson of Ellsworth. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Of his own immediate family of twelve brothers and sisters, all but two sisters, Mrs. John Judge and Mrs. Kate Wilson of Ames, have preceded him in death.

For over six months preceding his death Mr. Roney had been confined to his bed but throughout all that time had been tenderly cared for by his family, his own patience being an exemplification of his Christian fortitude.

Mrs. Roney, his wife of 48 years, has been an invalid confined to her bed for the past two years.

Among the out of town relatives in attendance at the funeral services were Lee Roney of Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roney, their son Gene and daughter Maxine of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Kate Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. John Judge, Ed Judge and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilson of Ames and possibly others.
