Collins, March 7--Funeral services for the late Amos J. Kendig of Collins, who passed away at his home Tuesday evening were held from the Methodist church, Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. R. Stone and Miss Dorothy Hunt. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Collins in the family lot with six nephews acting as pallbearers.

Amos J. Kendig, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Kendig was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, Nov. 12, 1865 and passed away, after a short illness at his home in Collins, Tuesday evening Feb. 28, 1939, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 16 days.

At the age of two he moved with his parents to Illinois and ten years later they moved to Iowa, settling at Marshalltown, and from that time Iowa has been his home the greater part having been spent in Jasper county. He was married on Feb. 28, 1893, to Miss Flora Witmer, at Mingo, Ia., and four years later moved to the farm three miles south of Collins and this was their home until they retired and moved into town. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kendig, two daughters and one son. The daughters, Mrs. J. I. Kimberley of southeast of Collins and Miss Mabel Kindig of Kalamazoo, Michigan, survive him. Rumbaugh of Mingo; two brothers S. M. Kendig of Elkhart, Ia., and A. L. Kendig of Spokane, Wash.

In the sixteen years Mr. Kendig lived in Collins he served the community in many ways. He was a member of the local Methodist church, and served in an official capacity throughout the years. He worked always for the betterment of the town and served as its mayor for a time. His interest extended to the school and he served as member of the Board of Education.

For a number of years served as treasurer of the "Collin Short Course" and at the time of hi death was still active in that organization.

Fraternally he was identified with the Masonic order.

He was recognized as a man of high moral character, a friend to those who needed a friend and considerate of the rights and feelings of others.

He will be greatly missed by his family, his church and the entire community. Services were largely attended, friends and relatives coming from a distance to pay their last respects to one they knew and loved so well.
