Jacob Hill, 78, Dies; Longtime Roland Resident

Roland, Nov. 12--Jacob J. Hill, 78-year-old longtime resident of Roland and community, died Tuesday afternoon at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines. Although he underwent an operation yesterday morning it was not considered serious but the patient failed to rally and died at 1 p. m.

Funeral services are pending the arrival of one daughter, Mrs. W. N. Bacon, of Phoenix, Ariz.

Hill, who was born at Hauge, Norway, on June 20, 1869, the son of Jacob and Carrie Hill came to the United States with his parents when he was 16 years old. Since that time he had always lived in Story county. He moved to Roland four years ago from his farm northeast of here.

His wife was the former Susan Nerem whom he married Feb. 26, 1893, at Roland. They would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary next year.

He was longtime member of Salem Lutheran church and held the office of deacon at the time of his death.

Ten Children

Survivors include the following 10 children: Joe, Radcliffe; Morris, Burlington; Mrs. R. V. Rasmussen, Ontario; Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, Ames; Mrs. Floyd Bryant, Marshalltown; Jewell, McCallsburg; Mrs. Pete Frette, Roland; Mrs. W. N. Bacon, Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Selmer Tjernagel, Story City and Walter, Nevada; 38 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
