Services for Herman Chas. Hurth* Held at Zearing

Zearing, July 19 -- Funeral services for Herman Charles Kurth were held in the Zearing Evangelical Church on Thursday afternoon at 2:30, July 10, with Rev. C. L. Fuller in charge.

Songs were rendered by the male quartet, Carroll Bailey, Bill Adams, Max McBride and Eldon Crains with Mrs. Delos Dakins at the piano. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Harry La Fevre, Mrs. Nellie Ricketts and Mrs. Charles Stevens.

Pall bearers were Earl Allen, Harry La Fevre, Cliff Carver, Hildreth Snowgren, Clarence Bump and Marion Phillips. Burial was in the Zearing cemetery.

Herman Charles Kurth was born July 11, 1893, at Kewanee, Illinois. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kurth now live at Elmore, Minnesota. Herman came to Zearing in 1920, employed as a steamfitter on the Lincoln township consolidated school house which was in construction at that time. It was here he met Mrs. Ella Rhodes Bailey to whom he was married on Sept. 14, 1921. He was a kind and loving foster father to the two small girls in their home who were children from Mrs. Kurth's former marriage.

In youth he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Elmore. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Zearing and belonged to the Shrine.

He had been a restaurant operator in Zearing at various times, but in recent months he had been connected with the Young plumbing establishment of this place.

He departed his life on Monday evening July 7, at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown, where he suffered a heart attack after a few hours at that place.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, two step-daughters, Mrs. Agnes Cerka of Zearing and Mrs. Gladys Steelman of Marshalltown, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kurth of Elmore, Minn., Mrs. Hulda Watkin of Eagle Grove, Clara Hancock, William and Bennie of Elmore, Minn., Art Kurth of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Irene of Washington, D. C. He will be greatly missed from his circle of loved ones and friends.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Bennie Kurth, Bill Kurth, Mrs. Clara Hancock of Elmore, Minnesota, Art Kurth, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ed Young and Adolph Young of Chicago, Fred and Marie Belle of Boone, Ed North, James J. Atley, Bill Chizek and mother, Carl Wagner of Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kurth of Elmore, Minn.
