Hold Rites in Huxley For California Man, Former County Resident
Huxley, July 8 -- Funeral services for O. B. Olson, who passed away June 22, at his home in Modesto, Cal., were held Sunday afternoon, June 29, with a brief service at the home of his son, John Olson, at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 at the Fjeldberg Lutheran church with Rev. O. C. Helleckson in charge Elman Sheldahl sang "Den Store Uei Flok" at the home service.
Mrs. Ed hall sang two special numbers, "Going Home" and "Lords Prayer." Miss Ruth Olson, granddaughter of Mr. Olson, played for the service. Gifts of money were given in memory of Mr. Olson to the mission and building and organ fund of the Fjeldberg church. Many beautiful flowers were given by relatives and friends. The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased, Levi Seversike, Harold Sheldahl, Orville Kalsem, Marion Kalsem and Ed Helland.
O. B. Olson was the son of Bret and Sarah Sannano Olson who came from Norway and settled one mile east of Huxley. O. B. was born June 17, 1872, one mile east of Huxley and was baptized and confirmed at the Fjeldberg Lutheran church at Huxley.
Mr. Olson suffered a stroke June 16, 1947, and the second stroke a few days later and died June 22, at his home in Modesto, Cal., at the age of 75. Their son, John Olson of Huxley, flew out to see his father and got there before he passed away.
He was united in marriage to Martha Kalsem of Huxley Feb. 28, 1895, at Huxley. To this union six children were born. Mr. Olson lived in this community for 30 years in 1932 moved to Perry and in 1926 moved to Modesto, Cal., where he has made his home until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Olson, and five children, Elmer of Albia, Iowa, John of Huxley, Milford of Modesto, Cal., Mrs. Olive Wagner of Lake Side, Cal. and Mrs. Mollie Sylvester of Los Angeles, Cal., one brother, Williams Olson, from Hillman, Cal., 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Myrna preceded him in death in infancy.
Burial was in the Fjeldberg Lutheran cemetery one mile south of Huxley. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were from California, Perry, Ames, Slater and Cambridge. Lunch was served at the church parlor after the funeral to relatives and friends.
