Last Rites for Mrs. Sam Hicks At Cambridge

Cambridge, Feb. 11: Funeral services for Mrs. Sam Hicks of Cambridge were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock for the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Cambridge with the pastor, Rev. LeRoy Sargent in charge. Interment in the Cambridge Cemetery.

Orlena Minton, daughter of Marion and Margaret [Jones] Minton, was born near Frankfort, Indiana, August 5, 1885 and passed away Sunday evening at 7 o'clock at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, where she was taken Saturday morning when found unconscious in her home. She had reached the age of 61 years, 5 months and 28 days.

She was educated in the schools of Frankfort and Sheriden, Indiana, later attending Chicago University for two years, after which she came to Manchester, Iowa, where later she taught country school at Garber for two years. Moving with her mother and only sister to Lake City she met and married Samuel Hicks of Exira, who preceded her in death in 1941. To this union was born one daughter who died in infancy. Her mother passed away at Manchester in 1932, and her sister Francis Emily Platner in April 1937.

One brother, Ed Minton and an aunt, Mrs. Georgia Jones together with several cousins in Indiana still survive. Hers was a life of hardship but also one of a great and abiding faith.
