OBITUARY OF JOHN McCONNELL
John McConnell, son of John and Catherine McConnell, was born in Ohio, October 14, 1850, and departed this life in Nevada, Iowa, December 25, 1921, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 11 days.
He, with his parents, came to Iowa in 1854 and settled in Story county, near the old town of Peoria, in the south part of the county. They remained here one year, when thy moved to the farm south of Nevada where he resided until 1877 when he moved to farm one mile west of the home place. Here he lived for nine years and then removed to the old home farm, where he resided until the spring of 1909 when he moved to Nevada.
He was united in marriage with Lucinda Evans, December 12, 1875. To this union three children were born, one of whom died in infancy. Those living are Mrs. Cora Mullen and Ray McConnell, both of Nevada. His wife preceded him in death July 24, 1914. Beside the two children, he leaves to mourn his departure, one brother, Sim McConnell, of Nevada; also 8 grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. The immediate relatives have all been in association with him during his sickness, except on grandson, Lester Mullen, Hawah. Though they knew the seriousness of his condition, the suddenness of his death came as a great shock to them. He will be greatly missed by those who have known him thruout the years of his residence in Nevada and Story county.
The funeral services were held in the home of O. O. Mullen on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of D. C. Dusenberg, assisted by Rev. Hastie, of Liscomb, Iowa. The burial took place in the cemetery near the Summit church in the old Mullen neighborhood.
