Raymond Shipman Dies In Washington, D. C.
Raymond Shipman, 42, son of Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Shipman of Ames and a resident of Nevada when his father was pastor of the Nevada Methodist church, died suddenly Thursday afternoon in Washington, D. C., where his parents had been called by his illness.
After services in Washington, the body will be brought to Ames for funeral services and burial.
George Raymond Shipman, 42, graduated from Ames high school and from Simpson college. He took his master's degree at the State University of iowa after which he entered government service, serving with the bureau of Inter-American Affairs, spending a year in London during the war with the OSS.
On his return to this country he entered Yale University where he received his Ph.D. degree. He taught modern languages for four years at Southwestern college, Memphis, Tenn., after which he returned to Washington, taking a position with the census bureau.
