Charles M. Wilson

Charles M. Wilson was born in Stephenson county, Ill., January 10, 1844, and departed this life November 30, 1921, at the age of 77 years, 10 month and 20 days. His early years were spent with his parents on a farm in Illinois until he enlisted as a soldier in the civil war in 1863.

He was united in marriage December 8, 1868, to Emma Lusk. To this union was born five children, three girls and two boys, the boys having preceded him in death, one in infancy and Fred at the age of 32, died in 1902.

He is survive by his beloved wife and three daughters, Jessie Wilson and Mrs. Ira Dodds, both of Gilbert, and Mrs. Jim Jenkins of Boone county; one brother, the only one left of seven children, and also three grandchildren.

In March, 1869, he located in Story county on a farm 1/2 mile west of Gilbert. Here his children were born an grew to manhood and womanhood. A number of years ago he removed his family to Gilbert, where the remaining years of his life were spent. He dearly loved his home and never so happy as when at home surrounded by his family.

While still a young man he joined the Gilbert Congregational church, an remained a faithful member until the end. Another member of the G. A. R. has gone and only a few left.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday, Dec. 3rd by Rev. H. M. Raecher. The text was taken from the 14th chapter and 13th verse of Revelations. Interment was made in the Gilbert cemetery.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. H. Leach and son of Des Moines, Mrs. Vern of Polk City, Mrs. Frank Wilson and sons of Slater, C. W. Wilson of Garden Grove.

To our neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted and comforted us during the illness, death and burial of out dear husband and father; to the singers who rendered the sweet music at the services; to the school an to those who sent so many beautiful flowers and to those who so graciously remembered us with kind words of sympathy, we wish to extend our heartfelt thanks.
