E. F. M'KIM DIED YESTERDAY AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS

Respected Pioneer of Nevada Loses Long Battle for Life

Evan Franklin McKim, one of the pioneers of this community, passed away at his home in Nevada at 3:55 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 16, 1921, after a lingering illness of pernicious anemia. His last sickness became serious about December 20, 1920, which was the last day he was able to do any manual labor. Every effort was made to obtain medical relief. He visited the Mayo clinic March 2, 1921, and his ailment was pronounced to be pernicious anemia. After a month's treatment at the Stanley hospital where he was given two blood transfusions, he was able to return home in Nevada somewhat improved. On April 28th following he was unable to be up and has been practically bed fast ever since. On November 7, his condition became decidedly worse and for several days the final summons was momentarily awaited. Mr. McKim was a man of Christian fortitude and bore his sufferings, altho the pain at times was severe, with a patient cheerfulness that is rarely seen.

Mr. McKim was born August 3, 1860, in the state of Illinois, and was 61 years, 3 month and 14 days of age at the time of his death. He came to Story county when a lad of five years, with his parents, Daniel E. and Patience Ann McKim, who were among the well known people of the early days. His grandfather, Judge E. C. Evans, was Story county's first judge and the first court was held at his grandfather's house.

Mr. McKim was married to Miss Frances C. Zeck of Washington, at Carroll, on March 12, 1887. They have made their home at Nevada. Mr. McKim had been a resident of this city since 1870, when the parents took up their residence here. He was a brick layer and stone mason by trade. Over half of the brick buildings on Nevada's main street was built by his father and him.

Deceased is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Annette Tallman, of Jewell, a brother, I. M. McKim, of Plover, and a half brother, Ralph E. McKim of this city.

The funeral service will be held at the Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, following a brief service at the home at 2:15 o'clock. His pastor, Rev. R. M. Shipman, will conduct the service. Interment will be made in Nevada cemetery, and the service at the cemetery will be under the direction of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which deceased was an honored member.

The pall bearers will be six of Mr. McKim's nephews, three sons of his sister and three sons of his brother, I. M.
