ERNEST PHIFER BURIED SUNDAY

Last Rites for Former Nevada Man Who Died in Dakota

The body of the late Ernest Phifer, who died last week at Minot, N. Dak., arrived in Nevada Friday evening. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Christian church. Burial followed in the Nevada cemetery.

The funeral services were in charge of Rev. Shank of the United Evangelical church, he being assisted by Rev. Knoles of the Christian church. The Masonic burial service was used at the grave, that order attending the funeral in a body.

Ernest Moody Phifer, was born Jan. 3, 1883, at Grandview, Louisa county, Iowa and departed this life September 13, 1921, at the age of 38 years, 8 months and 10 days.

When but a boy he removed with his parent to Washington county, Ia., where they resided for a few years, later coming to Richland township of this county. In 1902 he came with his parents to Nevada and was engaged with his father in the feed yard business.

In 1906 he went to Drake, N. D., where he engaged for a short time in the livery business. The then went to the western part of North Dakota where he settled upon a quarter section claim. After proving upon the claim he returned to Drake, making his home to the time of his death, and where he has been engaged in the draying business.

Mr. Phifer was united in marriage to Miss Anna Mathews of Johnson, Minn., Nov. 17, 1909, at Minot, N. D. He was a man dearly beloved and highly esteemed in the community by all who knew him. His death is keenly sensed by all.

A short time ago he suffered an infection from a tooth, which resulted in blood poisoning in its worst form. Although every effort was made to save his life, it seemed as tho nothing could be done. The end came early Tuesday morning of September 13, and he peacefully fell on sleep.

He had made his peace with God and his closing days when he realized that the end was near he assured his friends that all was well with his soul. This is a great comfort to all who are left behind, for they need not sorrow as those have no hope.

He had at one time or another held many offices of trust in the town and county in which he lived, which shows the high esteem in which he was held. He was a member of the Masonic and I. O. O. F. lodges and held many offices in them at various times.

There are left to mourn his untimely death, his sorrowing and grief stricken window of Drake, N. D., father and mother of Nevada, two brothers, E. F. Phifer of Thompson, Iowa, Earl of Fairmont, Minn., an one sister, Mrs. C. E. Cassem of Odin, Minn., and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at Drake Thursday before en route to Nevada.
