Obituary

Simon P. Rinehart was born April 10, 1833 in Washington county, Md., and died September 18, 1921, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. E. Fleming, in Colo, Iowa, aged 88 years, 5 months and 8 days. While still quite young he was bereft of his mother. When 14 years of age he moved with his father to Ogle county, Ill. In 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Sisler, who shared his joys and sorrows until about four years ago. Eight children were born to them, three of whom preceeded the parents in death. They were Ellis, Mrs. Merella Smith and Mrs. Emma Coughenour. Four of the surviving children live in Colo and one in Maxwell. they were all with him and cared for him during his long illness. In 1867 Mr. and Mrs. Rinehart moved onto the farm three and one-half miles southwest of Colo, now known as the Rinehart farm. In 1902 they built a house in Colo, which was their home, while Mrs. Rinehart lived. Since then Mr. Rinehart has lived with his children, spending the most of his time with his youngest daughter Mrs. Fleming. Mr. Rinehart was an active member of the Dalton United Brethren church from its beginning and retained his membership there until he joined the church triumphant. After moving to Colo he attended and assisted the churches here because he could not attend his own church often. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and good neighbor and kind friend. He always had a pleasant word and smile for those he met. He leaves to mourn their loss five children: Sherman D. Rinehart, Mrs. Lillian Schoonover, Mrs. Mary Carver, and Mrs. Jessie Fleming of Colo, and Mrs. Arta Coughenour of Maxwell. Twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren, besides several other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon conducted by his pastor, Rev. Schierholtz, assisted by Rev. A. B. Adams. Words of comfort were spoken from the text found in Psalms 116:15. Interment was made in the Colo cemetery beside his wife. Sincere sympathy is extended to the sorrowing ones by the entire community.
