MELVINA CATHERINE COOK-FETTERHOFF

Melvina Catherine Cook was born November 4, 1843, near Mill Brook, franklin county, Pa. Her marriage to Jacob R. Fetterhoff took place October 12, 1865, at the close of the civil war during which time he had served in the army of the Potomac, taking part in many engagements. After the marriage, which took place at Franklin Grove, Ill., the young people came to Nevada, living in town the first year, and then moving to a farm four miles south of Nevada. On February 26, 1885, Mr. Fetterhoff died after only a brief illness. He was away from home at the time conducting evangelistic meetings, and his wife could not reach him til after he was gone. In February of 1903 she and the children moved to town where their residence has since been.

Death came suddenly but peacefully to Mrs. Fetterhoff. Without previous illness or pain she all at once ceased to live last Saturday evening, May 14, 1921. It made but little difference to her what time the summons might come for her life had been such that any time would have found her ready. In her young years she had become a Christian and when she came to Nevada she united with the Methodist church, becoming a member in full connection September 1, 1867. She loved the church, greatly enjoyed its services of worship, and took part according to her strength in the activities of the women's societies.

Of the five children of this family, one son, Harvey Grant died a number of years ago. Anna Mae and Cleo Pearl have lived in Nevada with their mother. Benola Alvin also resides in Nevada, while the youngest daughter, Mrs. Etta Bell Brown, lives near Lake Mills, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, in charge of the pastor, Rev. R. M. Shipman, and burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
