MRS. C. D. BARKER DIED EARLY TODAY

NO FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS MADE PENDING WORD FROM RELATIVES

Mrs. Chas. D. Barker, 70, pioneer woman of northeast Union township, died at her home six miles south of Nevada this morning about 4:30, after an illness covering over a period of some weeks, the past few days of which her condition had been considered critical.

Definite arrangements for the funeral were yet undetermined pending word from relatives at a distance.

Mrs. Barker whose maiden name was Emily Ann Eastman, was born January 6, 1862 near New Milford, Illinois She came as a girl with her parents to Story county and settled in Union township and there she was married to Charles D. Barker, a young neighboring farmer, August 31, 1878.

Seven children were born to this union, and five of them, with the father survive the wife and mother. These deceased are Otto, and Arthur, while the living are Mrs. Ada Ray of Des Moines, Mrs. Angie Gutekunst of State Center, Leslie and Jesse Barker of near Nevada, and Mrs. Alta Maxwell of Des Moines.
