DR. JOOR, PIONEER MAXWELL PHYSICIAN FOUND DEAD TODAY
Practically All His Life Had Lived in Story County
Special to the Journal.
Maxwell, August 19--This community was shocked this morning when the lifeless body of Dr. Peter Joor, pioneer physician of the county, was found seated in a chair in his office, about 10 o'clock.The body was found by Mrs. Garlock and her son when they entered the office to consult with the doctor.
Dr. Joor had been in his usual health when he went down town this morning and death is ascribed to a sudden heart attack.
Dr. Joor was a pioneer and the oldest practicing physician in the county, so far as years of service in concerned.
Coming to Story county with his parents as a boy, he attended school in Nevada and graduated with the class of 1876, the first class to graduate from the local schools at Nevada.
Next he went to the University of Iowa and graduated from the medical college there in 1881 and came at once to Maxwell, where he located for practice, and where he has been continuously since.
Mrs. Joor is dead, but leaves two sons, John and Will, both of near Maxwell.
He had maintained his home with the assistance of a sister of his deceased wife.
Dr. Joor had always been active in the public affairs of the community and ha maintained an active interest in school affairs, in which he evinced a continuous interest.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Peter Joor was married to Esther Brodie, daughter of John Andrew Brodie and Anna Hill McDougal, on 27 January 1931 in Maxwell, Story County, Iowa. After her death on 27 February 1904, her sister Annie Brodie kept house for Dr. Joor.
