JOHN CANNON WAS DROWNED SUNDAY

FORMER STORY COUNTY FAMILY BEREAVED BY DROWNING OF A SON.

Word reached Nevada yesterday of the drowning of John Cannon, third son of Doug A. Cannon, in the river at Iowa City Sunday morning at 10:00. No particulars of the fatality were received. The young man's father was at Colo at the time and he left on No. 12 for his home.

The Cannon family lived on a farm at Colo for many years until about three years ago when they moved to Iowa City that the children might have the opportunity of education at the university.

John was about 24 years of age and was to have entered the service in the army within a short time. He has one brother who left very recently for year ago in June. The elder brother is on his way to France at this time.

The mother died very suddenly a year ago in June. The elder brother Fred in farming in Minnesota, the second brother Dan is on his way to France and younger brother Albert is now in camp. Of the three sisters Miss Carrie is in school at Iowa City, Miss Margaret is a Red Cross nurse awaiting call and Helen is in the school at the university.

The last word received from Iowa City last evening was to the effect that they had not recovered the body of Cannon as yet. The body will be brought back to Colo for interment when the body is recovered but there can be no time et for the funeral until further word is received from Iowa City.
